Technology has changed our lives by increasing the speed of time. We were human. We invented and developed the technologies to change our life to its best. Now we have faster cars, faster communication systems and even faster computers. We can do things faster than we ever thought possible. There are many examples of technology changing lives in positive ways, from online shopping and online learning opportunities to peer-to-peer educational sites like Khan Academy and international communities on Skype that allow people to connect all over the world to learn together.

One of the most significant changes is how easily this technology is accessible to anyone with an internet connection.

A team of researchers from the National Institute of Standards and Technology has successfully sent a quantum version of "Roses are red, violets are blue" to the Canary Islands from Colorado. It's the first time we've been able to send a message using quantum encryption over this long a distance, proving that it is possible to keep information secure over vast distances.

"We're now closer than ever before to creating an unhackable global network," lead researcher Martin Stevens said in a press release. "Our experiment shows that quantum communication can be scaled up to send secure messages across the world."

Quantum encryption takes advantage of the fundamental nature of photons (particles of light) and their unique chemical makeup. In short, photons have both particle-like and wave-like qualities and behave differently than any other particle known to man. This is why they're perfect for encoding information in an entirely new way.
